Consul General Santos Calls On Houston Mayor
HOUSTON 04 December 2018 — The top officials of the Philippine Consulate General in Houston and the Houston City Government agreed to work closely together to spur a more dynamic relationship between Houston and the Philippines after a courtesy call held on 26 October 2018 at the Houston City Hall.
In a courtesy call on Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Consul General Jerril Santos conveyed the strong indication of the Philippines’ desire to strengthen economic ties between the South Central region of the US and the Philippines, thus the reopening of the Consulate General in Houston.
Consul General Santos emphasized that much is needed to be done to regain momentum after 25 years of missed opportunities following its closure in 1993.
For his part, Mayor Turner welcomed the opening of the Consulate General, acknowledging the significant number of Filipinos/Filipino-Americans in the city.
He conveyed his office’s intent of paving the way to further the trade relationship between Houston and the Philippines and to develop meaningful exchanges.
He also said that, “Houston is a city with global interests,” thus this interface is very important to him. END
