WARSAW 06 December 2018 — Polish labor officials informed Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs Party Chairperson Jesulito A. Manalo during their meeting on 26 October 2018 that the bilateral labor cooperation agreement between the Philippines and Poland is in the process of discussions.
Poland has never signed a bilateral labor cooperation agreement before with another country.
Polish Labor Ministry Labor Market Department Deputy Director Magdalena Sweklej informed Rep. Manalo that the Ministry’s current focus is the drawing up of a migration policy which tackles not just labor supply but also the security aspect, adaptation of migrants, and other labor migration concerns.
The legislator said that while the Philippines can supply the manpower requirements of Poland, it is better to first identify the specific sectors and sub-sectors where the workers are to be deployed so that the potential candidates can easily be identified and only those people who can adapt well to Poland would be deployed.
The legislator also pointed to the need to first increase people-to-people interactions such as student exchanges between the two countries. He said that it is better to enlist the services of Filipinos who have undergone schooling and have graduated from Poland’s educational institutions, and presumably, have learned the Polish language and have become adapted to its culture.
Rep. Manalo also met with the officials of Poland’s Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Transport on 25 October 2018 where they discussed possible collaboration in the fields of maritime education and the further development of the shipbuilding industries in the Philippines and in Poland. END
