Bahrain’s National Institution of Human Rights Conducts Outreach

MANAMA 06 December 2018 — The National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) of Bahrain conducted its Comprehensive Outreach Program on Human Rights at the Philippine Embassy in Manama on 09 November 2018.
NIHR Chairwoman Maria Khoury spoke to over 100 Filipino nationals who attended the event and explained the functions and role of the NIHR, particularly in safeguarding the rights of expatriates in Bahrain. She emphasized that the NIHR’s mandate is to ensure that the human rights of all people residing in the Kingdom are respected and protected by the state, in accordance with the directive of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The seminar is also part of the Embassy’s program for the continued education and building of awareness of its citizens about their rights in Bahrain.
Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver praised the efforts of the Kingdom to initiate reforms for the enhancement of the protection of the rights of migrant workers in Bahrain and thanked the NIHR for its efforts to reach out to the Filipino community in the country.
He also thanked the members of the Filipino community who attended the event and encouraged them to help in sharing the information they received to other kababayans who were unable to attend the forum.
