KUALA LUMPUR 04 December 2018 – Members and leaders of the Filipino Community in Malaysia welcomed Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, and other officials from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and OWWA in a meet-and-greet event organized by the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) at the Embassy’s consular area on 26 November 2018.
The town hall-style event was attended by over a hundred people representing 29 Filipino community organizations across the country, as well as officers of the Federation of Filipino Associations in Malaysia (FFAM), the umbrella organization of Filipino Community organizations in Malaysia.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose invited attendees to take the opportunity to get to know Secretary Bello, as well as DOLE and OWWA’s initiatives for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“Please allow this evening to demonstrate that the Philippine Government is committed not only in engaging you, but also working with you to achieve our shared goal of improving the lives of Filipinos everywhere,” Ambassador Jose said.
Secretary Bello, who was in Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN Labor Ministers Meeting, thanked the Filipino Community for warmly welcoming him, and assured OFWs that they may freely express their concerns directly to him or through the POLO.
The program ended with an open forum, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions to Secretary Bello and Administrator Cacdac. END
