Over 600 Hopefuls Take Teachers’ Licensure Exam in HK
HONG KONG 08 October 2018 – More than 600 Filipino living in Hong Kong took the Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) for professional teachers administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) at a secondary school in Kowloon on 30 September 2018.
The exam was held in in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.
Consul General in Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales visited the private Delia Memorial School (Matteo Ricci) in Kwun Tong District in Hong Kong with Labor Attaché Leonida V. Romulo and Deputy Consul General Roderico C. Atienza at the start of the day-long exam organized once a year in Hong Kong.
Gloria S. Varquez, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) officer in charge of exam applications, said 614 overseas Filipino workers sat for the exam this year, a third more than the 460 examinees in 2017. The results are expected to be released on 04 December 2018.
Last year, there were 60 successful examinees.
Applicants living in mainland China and Macau can also take exam by submitting the required documents and paying the application fee at the POLO in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island.
Any successful candidate can apply to the POLO for assistance to be placed as a teacher in a public school in their hometown in the Philippines under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) “Sa ‘Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir” (SPIMS).
SPIMS is a migrant worker reintegration project of the DOLE with the PRC, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, to provide opportunities for qualified teachers working overseas to practice their profession as teachers in their hometowns.
