TORONTO 14 November 2018 — Taking advantage of the opportunity offered by Canada for to further trade, a Philippine business mission visited the country from 20 to 27 October 2018 for networking and knowledge sharing activities.
Consul General Rosalita Prospero and other officials of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto welcomed the delegation at the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto on 22 October 2018.
The 6th Outbound Trade Mission to Canada was organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) and the delegation was composed of Philippine companies engaged in agri-business and food and technology. The delegation visited Toronto and Ottawa for networking, business briefings, and events and made visits to relevant food manufacturers and processors, federal and provincial representatives, consultants and industry suppliers, and vendors.
In her welcome remarks, Consul General Prospero expressed her appreciation to the Philippine delegation for coming to Ontario and pointed out that recent trends in global trade and the continuing growth in the Filipino diaspora coming to Canada, particularly in Ontario, indicate that there is potential for growth in bilateral trade between the two countries, especially in food and related products.
Mr. Emerson Cheng of the provincial Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) opined that there’s tremendous opportunity for the Philippines and Canada to engage in trade and collaborative activities because of the current global trading issues in certain major markets which has encouraged Canada to seek out new markets.
During the forum, each Philippine company showcased their major products and identified major areas for possible partnerships with companies or entrepreneurs based in Ontario. END
