PHOTO: The Philippine Embassy in Mexico participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Escuela Secundaria General No. 87 “Republica de Filipinas” in Mexico City.

The Escuela Secundaria Republica de Filipinas is one of three Mexican public schools named after the Philippines. The school was named after the country as an expression of gratitude for the Philippine government’s donation of chemistry laboratory equipment in 1968.

As part of the commemorative activities, the Embassy donated a book written by Thomas Clavo and Paulina Machuca entitled “Mexico y Filipinas: Culturas y memorias sobre el Pacifico,” which documents the close historical relations between the Philippines and Mexico brought about by the Galleon Trade.
