HONG KONG 15 October 2018 – Consul General in Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales encouraged Filipinos living in Hong Kong to engage in sporting activities such as bowling as a healthy way of spending leisure time during the seventh anniversary celebration of the Filipino Bowling Club of Hong Kong (FBCHK) held at the South China Athletic Association Bowling Alley in Causeway Bay on 07 October 2018.

“I am heartened so many of you here engaged in fun and healthy leisure activities,” Consul General Morales said in his remarks at the opening of the commemorative party and awarding ceremonies wherein the most recent winners of the club’s regular quarterly tournament were recognized.

“Taking up bowling or other sports engages not only the mind and body, but also keeps you away from spending unnecessarily or getting into bad habits or company,” the Consul General added. He also congratulated the FBCHK members for keeping the organization going since its founding in 2011.

Some of the more than 100 participants, including the friends, employers, and spouses of the members, even dressed up in costumes for the event.

Founding chair Jenny Gafata-Biasca said the organization, founded on 26 November 2011, held monthly league tournaments for its 55 active members, most of whom worked as household service workers. Every Tuesday, the FBCHK members also took part in the Interconsulate Bowling Tournament with local Hongkongers.

She said FHCHK will host on 06-07 April 2019 the annual Australasian Filipino Bowling Games, which invites Filipino community organizations in the Asia-Pacific region for two days. The games were previously held in Singapore in 2015, Australia in 2016, and the Philippines in 2017. END
