VIENTIANE 05 November 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, in coordination with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Project Saysay, organized a film showing to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Philippine cinema, as well as a special exhibition of portraits by Project Saysay on 27 October 2018 at the Embassy premises.
A total of 34 Filipinos attended the exhibition and film screening.
The films shown during the event were “Sonata” and “Ang Mga Kidnapper ni Ronnie Lazaro.” In “Sonata,” Cherie Gil starred as Regina Cadena, a famous opera singer who lost her voice and became a recluse until her secretary’s young son bonds with her and helps her rediscover her art.
Comedy movie “Ang Mga Kidnapper ni Ronnie Lazaro” tells the story of a group of friends who decide to make a film with Ronnie Lazaro to help another friend who is down on his luck. They accidentally kidnap Lazaro, with the hopes of convincing him to act in their movie.
The exhibition displayed Project Saysay’s portraits of ten famous Filipinos, such as Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini and Gregoria de Jesus. Project Saysay is a youth-led advocacy group which seeks to spread the ideals and values of distinguished Filipinos in various fields. The portraits will be on display at the Embassy until Bonifacio Day on 30 November 2018.
Cultural events and activities fall under the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal program, which aims to promote Philippine art, music, dance, literature, and films, among others, worldwide. END
