PH Embassy in Yangon Conducts OFW Labor Roundtable

YANGON 10 December 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon conducted its first Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Labor Roundtable Discussion for Filipinos living and working in Myanmar on 18 November at Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.

Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz delivered the opening remarks and discussed that in an effort to bring Philippine government services closer to the Filipinos in Myanmar, the Embassy invited Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Labor and Employment and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Representatives to discuss their policies and services.

Director Felixberta N. Romero discussed the political and regulatory framework on labor and immigration, employment contract and different services of the POEA. Assistant Labor Attaché Delia S. Palomar presented the functions of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office while OWWA Director Emma V. Sinclair oriented the attendees on the many benefits of OWWA memberships.

An open forum was held in which participants were able to voice their concerns to the representatives of the three agencies. The event was attended by 111 Filipinos. END
