PH Attends HelpAge Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in Tehran

TEHRAN 05 November 2018 – Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos joined the 120 participants from various countries and 40 representatives from government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from Iran at the opening ceremony of the HelpAge Asia-Pacific Regional Conference at the Parsian Esteghlal International Hotel in Tehran on 23-25 October 2018.
Ambassador Santos joined Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Florita R. Villar at the opening ceremony, which was graced by the presence of high-ranking Iranian government officials such as Labor, Cooperatives, and Social Welfare Minister Dr. Mohseni Bandpey, Minister of Health and Medical Education Dr. Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi, and First Vice President Dr. Eshaq Jahangiri.
As head of the Philippine delegation, Undersecretary Villar is listed as the discussant for the topic: “The Role of Communities: How Can Community Organizations Facilitate Work in Later Life in Ageing Societies?”
With the theme ““Family, Community and State in Ageing Societies,” the three-day conference, co-hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the HelpAge International, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) aims to learn from the rich experiences of the international and Iranian participants and presenters in the light of emerging population and family dynamics affecting older persons throughout the region.
HelpAge International is an international NGO established in 1983 to provide a network to support older people worldwide. It now has well over 100 affiliates and works with some 200 partners in more than 70 countries. END
