PASAY 11 December 2018 — As part of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the DFA-Office of United Nations and Other International Organizations (UNIO) held a “Shadow Art Paper-Cutting Activity on Children’s Rights” for 100 students from Grades 4 to 6 at the Philippine School for the Deaf, Pasay City on 21 November 2018.

Supported by Jollibee and some private sponsors who donated books and art materials, the activity aims to spread awareness on children's rights in order to help empower the deaf children.

The book, “Karapat Dapat: Bata, Alamin and Iyong Mga Karapatan!" was used to stimulate the children’s imagination through creative expression and deeper understanding of human rights, especially due to their two-tiered vulnerability as children and as persons with disabilities.

It also featured some dance performances of the deaf children as well as the teaching of simple sign language greetings to DFA officers and staff, and culminated with the distribution of Jollibee meals to the children and the teachers. END
