PH Consul General Meets with Filipino Communities in Nebraska

CHICAGO 05 November 2018 — As part of her efforts to meet and engage the Filipino-American communities in the Mid-Western part of the United States, Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago travelled to Nebraska on 21 to 23 October 2018 to meet with the Filipino communities in Lincoln and Omaha cities where an estimated more than 5,000 Filipinos reside.
Consul General Jamoralin received a warm welcome at the Lincoln International Airport on 21 October 2018 led by Mrs. Angelina Ramos, former President of the Filipino-American Organization of Metropolitan Omaha. The community hosted a welcome luncheon for the Consul General at the Lazlo’s Restaurant at Lincoln, where State Senator Carol Blood, a friend of the Filipino-American community, was also present.
In Omaha, Filipino-American Domer Sodusta hosted a welcome dinner together with members of the Omaha Fil-Am organization.
Consul General Jamoralin took the opportunity to brief them on the activities and projects of the Philippine Consulate and how they the communities can continue to stay engaged with the Consulate. She also promoted the Philippine Consulate’s joint youth project with the Commission of Filipinos Overseas (CFO) entitled, “Midwest Youth Leaders in Diaspora Immersion Project,” targetting Fil-Am millennials aged 16-25 years old for a seven-day immersion program in the Philippines on 03 to 09 January 2019.
Consul General Jamoralin also invited the Filipino communites to join the yearly “Very Important Pinoy (VIP) Tour (formerly the Ambassadors Tour) and Filgrimage Tour scheduled in July 2019 in El Nido, Palawan.
The community leaders expressed appreciation for the visit of the Philippine Consulate officials and invited them to hold a Philippine consular outreach in Omaha in 2019.
Consul General Jamoralin also took time to visit the Lewis and Clark marker in Omaha, Nebraska where Capt. Merriwether Lois and Lt. William Clark passed through during their expedition from 1804 to 1806 through the midwest.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson to survey the “Land west of the Mississippi” or known as the Louisiana Territory after it was purchased by the US from France in 1803. END
