Davao City Teachers, Officials Participate in Science and Technology Training in Israel

TEL AVIV 11 December 2018 — Nine teachers from Mintal Comprehensive High School in Davao City and three representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) Region XI concluded their 14-day capacity building training on Innovation, Science & Technology, Arts, and Mathematics (iSTEAM) curriculum at the ORT Moshinsky Center for R&D Training on 29 November 2018.

The training of the teachers and education officials is part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement entitled “Excellence in Education: A Lighthouse Project” signed by Davao City, DepEd Region XI, PassItForward, and ORT Israel.

“The academe, particularly the educators in the high school curriculum, play a significant role in the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial culture among the Filipino youth. The training on iSTEAM of the teachers and education officials from Davao City, the hometown of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, can serve as a model for other schools in the Philippines towards the development of holistic roadmap for the country’s innovation ecosystem,” said Philippine Ambassador to Israel Neal Imperial during the closing ceremony.

During the official visit to Israel of President Rodrigo Duterte on 02-05 September 2018, the Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation Program was signed.  It is significant to the development of the Philippine innovative ecosystem and where Israel, known as the Start-Up Nation, is considered a world leader.
