Tripoli Rizal Day

09 January 2013 - A simple but meaningful commemoration of the 117th anniversary of the martyrdom of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal was held on 30 December 2013 at the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya. It was attended by the families of the officers and staff of the Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Philippine Ambassador to Libya Oscar Orcine shared the significant points in Dr. Rizal’s life and exhorted those present to pursue the hero’s ideals, especially his love for the Philippines and genuine desire to serve his countrymen.

“Whoever comes to the Embassy must not get out of its door hopeless but full of hope; that as public servants we must do our outmost to be more responsive to the needs and welfare of OFWs,” the Ambassador said. Everyone enjoyed the showing of the documentary film, “Pluma: Si Rizal, Ang Dakilang Manunulat,” and the tasty breakfast prepared especially by Ms. Rebecca T. Benitez. END
