TRIPOLI 18 December 2018 — In response to the appeal of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Libya, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. sent Assistant Secretary for Human Resources Management Ezzedin H. Tago to personally meet and hear their concerns in Tripoli.

During the five-day visit, Assistant Secretary Tago visited different hospitals and oil companies and met with company officials to assess the actual working conditions of the Filipinos in Libya.

The visit was initiated by the OFWs who appealed to Secretary Locsin to include additional exemptions for other workers not covered by Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Governing Board Resolution 8-2018.

Assistant Secretary Tago ended his visit with a town hall meeting at the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, where the different Filipino community leaders expressed their concerns and thanked Secretary Locsin for his favorable response to their call.

He advised the community that the Secretary Locsin has made representations with the Department of Labor and Employment and has recommended additional exemptions based on the requests made by the Community. POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia has expressed assurances that the recommendation of Secretary Locsin would be favorably acted upon by his office. END
