PH Embassy in Tehran Conducts Year-End Consular, Protocol Retooling

TEHRAN 14 December 2018 – To ensure that officers and staff are up-to-date on their competence to provide frontline services for its internal and external clients, the Philippine Embassy in Tehran conducted a consular and protocol retooling seminar on 06 December 2018.

“It is almost the end of the year and is an opportune to look back and revisit if we are doing the right things, doing it right, and doing it at the right time,” Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos addressed the Embassy officers and staff in his opening remarks.

The Ambassador gave a lecture on protocol fundamentals in preparation for future high-level visits and bilateral meetings with the host government. He also led a role-playing exercise to better illustrate the lessons and ensure memory retention.

Consul General Bryan T. Lao rtook a back-to-basics approach in refreshing the knowledge of frontline personnel on consular services and related it to the pillars of governance—basis, authority, and documentation.

He also discussed the principles of notarial services, fundamentals of visa issuance, civil registration, and certification issuance.

Third Secretary and Vice Consul Siegfred T. Masangkay reiterated the principles behind authentication services and gave a preview on the application of the Apostille Convention, which the Philippines recently acceded to and will enter into force in May 2019.

The retooling activity was held to ensure adherence to consular and administrative policies of the Department of Foreign Affairs while guaranteeing efficient, effective, and timely delivery of services. END
