Fil-Am Millennials to Participate in Immersion Program in PH
CHICAGO 20 December 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago will be sending 13 delegates that will form part of the first ever “Midwest Youth Leaders in Diaspora (YouLead) Immersion Program” in the Philippines covering Manila, Corregidor, Cavite, and Tagaytay on 03-09 January 2019.
The Consulate General held a briefing via video conference on 12 December 2018 with all the participants coming from various states in the Midwest.
The program is designed to help future leaders of the Filipino diaspora in the Midwest gain deeper understanding and appreciation of the country and its people as well as to instill and preserve a sense of national pride and realization of their Filipino identity.
Participants to the Immersion Program are Cheenie Ayala, Christopher Garrick, Veronica Garrick, Everett Icao, Anthony Javier, Dean Diaz, Nina Mondero, John Graeme Phillips and Alyssa Marie Solomon of Illinois, Alyssa Faith Podwoiski of Michigan, Vanessa Adriatico of Minnesota, Miles Foltynowicz of Missouri and Daphne Constantinides of Ohio.
The seven-day module is a combination of lectures on Philippine governance and migration, a visit to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Senate of the Philippines, as well as tours to the Corregidor Island and Taal Volcano.
The group will also have the opportunity to immerse in a Gawad Kalinga Community and participate in the host families’ daily activities overnight.
The Midwest YouLead Immersion Program is a joint project of the Consulate General and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, in cooperation with Avida Land Inc., Philippine Medical Association in Chicago and the Honorary Consulate General in Michigan. END
