PH Consulate General in Manado Conducts Medical Mission to Filipino Detainees in Bitung
PHOTO: The Philippine Consulate General in Manado conducted its first medical mission to the 17 Filipinos detained in the Bureau of Corrections in Bitung on 23 November 2018.
The assistance-to-nationals team, accompanied by Dra. Silvana Elizabeth Stjane Lumeno of Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandow Hospital Manado, checked on the health condition of the 17 Filipinos who are serving prison sentences in LAPAS Bitung.
Majority of the Filipinos were found to be healthy while some were diagnosed to be suffering from illness. As a preventive measure, the Consulate General provided the distressed Filipinos with the medicines and vitamins that they need, which are not provided by LAPAS.
Most of the Filipino detainees in LAPAS were apprehended and charged for illegal fishing in Indonesian waters and were sentenced for eight months to a maximum of one year and eight months imprisonment. (Manado PCG photos)
