PH Consul General Inducts Incoming Officers of Philippine Medical Associations of Greater St. Louis

CHICAGO 24 December 2018 — Consul General Gina Jamoralin administered the oath of office of the incoming officers and board members of the Philippine Medical Mission of Greater St. Louis, Philippine Medical Mission Women’s Auxiliary, and the Philippine Medical Mission Foundation on 08 December 2018 at Hilton Frontenac in St. Louis, Missouri.
The event, which adopted a Hawaiian-style “luau”, was organized in honor of Dr. Necita Roa, the former president of Philippine Medical Association (PMA) of Greater St. Louis, who passed away this year.
In her speech, Consul General Jamoralin paid tribute to Dr. Roa, a tireless and dedicated Filipino-American doctor who led her organization to various medical and surgical missions in the Philippines as her group’s way f giving back to the motherland. She thanked the current PMA of Greater St. Louis President Dr. Teresita Castillo and welcomed Dr. Proceso Arenos, the incoming president of the organization.
Consul General Jamoralin also invited the members to join her in the Philippines for the upcoming Very Important Pinoy (VIP) Tour and Filgrimage on 14-21 July 2019 to visit Manila, Bataan, Clark and Palawan. She also thanked the Filipino-American Association of Missouri (FAAMO) through its president, Mrs. Ronni Watkins, for supporting the joint project of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago and Commission of Filipinos Overseas (CFO) called the “Midwest Youth Leaders in Diaspora” (You-Lead) by sending a young participant from Missouri to join the immersion trip in the Philippines in January 2019.
During her trip to St. Louis, the Consul General also took time to visit the Missouri History Museum, the Ulysses Grant Historical Site, and the National Archives in Missouri. At the Missouri History Museum, she viewed photos of early Filipinos and their costumes who participated in the famous St. Louis World’s Fair held in St. Louis, Missouri from April 30 to December 1, 1904. The 1904 Fair featured a Philippine Pavilion, the largest and most popular exhibit at the Fair, involving more than 1,000 Filipinos from various ethnic groups in the country.
The Consulate General plans to do a consular outreach in St. Louis next year in response to various requests from the Filipino communities. There are an estimated 18,000 Filipinos living in the state of Missouri. END
