ROME 24 December 2018 — More than 100 Filipinos who recently arrived in Italy to join their families gathered at the Teatro Aurelio, Largo di San Pio V in Rome to learn the basics of living and working in Italy and to get an overview of their rights and obligations under Italian laws, social integration programs and services available, and local labor market trends at the first Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) organized by the Philippine Embassy in Rome on 02 December 2018

The PAOS was designed to address primarily the needs of Filipinos who come to Italy to join their respective families under the family re-unification program of the Italian government.

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco has emphasized the importance of PAOS in enhancing the capacity of Filipino migrants to cope with the new challenges and opportunities of living and working in Italy.

The Embassy tapped the services of Rome-based Filipino Women’s Council, which advocates continuing education, skills training, and social integration of Filipino migrants in Italy, to handle the orientation seminar.

Embassy representatives and its partner agencies such as the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Social Security Services and Pag-IBIG outlined their various programs and services and addressed queries from participants.

There are almost 170,000 Filipinos all over Italy, ninety percent of whom are employed in the services sector. END
