SINGAPORE 27 December 2018 — In commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 1896 execution at Bagumbayan, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore held an advance simple ceremony on 06 December 2018 in front of the Jose Rizal marker at the Asian Civilization Museum in Singapore.
Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap delivered a message on the life and works of Rizal.
Ambassador Yap highlighted in his remarks that “Rizal is just one of the ties that binds the Philippines and Singapore together. We owe it therefore to Rizal and to many other Filipino and Singaporean leaders and statesmen for laying the building blocks that will lead to our upcoming golden anniversary next year”.
Consul J. Anthony A. Reyes read one of Rizal’s famous poems, “The Song of Maria Clara”, in Spanish and Filipino. The wreath-laying at the Rizal marker was conducted by Ambassador Yap, assisted by Vice Consuls Janina Lourdes S. Bustos and Laarni Zorayda S. Gandarosa.
A simple salo-salo of Filipino breakfast was shared by the Embassy officers, staff and the attached agencies to culminate the Rizal Day commemoration. END
