DA Engages Agriculture Stakeholders in Moscow and St. Petersburg

MOSCOW 08 January 2019 – A Philippine delegation headed by Agriculture Undersecretary Waldo Carpio met with various government and business organizations in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia, including potential importers of Philippine products, on 4-8 December 2018.

The delegation was briefed on the structure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) by Assistant Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics Fedor Chernitsyn. They also discussed market access for Philippine products to member countries of the EEC namely Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

The delegation also visited the offices of Globus LLC and Be Fresh LLC to discuss the companies’ requirements in terms of agricultural products from the Philippines. Both companies are among the top suppliers of fresh fruits and vegetables in the major retail supermarkets all over Russia.

In Saint Petersburg, the team was warmly welcomed by Saint Petersburg Deputy Chairman on External Relations of the Administration Vyacheslav Kalganov at the Smolny Palace on 07 December 2018.

Both sides exchanged views on the growing opportunities for linkages between Saint Petersburg and Philippine businesses as well as the possibility of increasing cooperation with Saint Petersburg on the intergovernmental level.

The Philippine delegation also visited the Regional Office of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) of Russia in Saint Petersburg, where they were given a briefing on the process of entry of goods via the ports of Saint Petersburg by the Regional Office Deputy Head Oleg Emtsev.

The team also visited a commercial port as well as the office of DEFA Group, the largest importer of fresh fish and seafood in Russia, to discuss prospective cooperation between their companies and Philippine exporters.

The group capped its mission to Moscow and Saint Petersburg with a tour of the Kirov Mill, a flour milling company in Saint Petersburg, which produces organic flour mixes from a variety of grains sourced in several regions of Russia. END
