Eskuwelahang Munti Ng Guam Holds 18th Commencement Program

AGANA 11 January 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Guan in partnership with the Filipino Cultural Center (FCC), held the 18th commencement program of the Eskwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG) on 01 December 2018 at the Philippine Consulate General Sentro Rizal Agana.
Six students, five of whom are children aged 7-12 years old, graduated from the Philippine language and culture course.
The program opened with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by the children’s performances which showcased their Filipino language skills. The children sang “Bahay Kubo” with graduate Rafael de Guzman on ukulele, and “Mga Bahagi ng Katawan,” and recited “Pahapyaw sa Buhay ni Andres Bonifacio”; “Kaunting Kalaman tungkol sa Pilipinas – Rehiyon I, II at CAR.” For the finale, the graduates performed a traditional scarf dance.
Guest of honor and keynote speaker Vice Consul Alex O. Vallespin lauded the volunteer teachers’ efforts in helping promote Philippine culture, and thanked EMG’s generous sponsors and the students. He encouraged the students to share their experience at EMG with their counterparts to drum up interest in the program and get more students to enroll in future sessions.
The classes, which were conducted for ten Saturdays, were taught by volunteer teachers EMG Principal Mrs. Moguel, Dr. Clarissa Quan, Ms. Ciony Viray and Ms. Gloria Baguion.
The Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam core of volunteers thanked the Consulate General for providing its space to accommodate the students and hopes to encourage more enrollees in the future. EMG’s spring session resumes in February 2019. END
