DOHA 31 December 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Doha, headed by the Assistance to National (ATN) section, celebrated Christmas eve with Filipinos staying in the Philippine Overseas Labor Office’s (POLO) Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center or the Embassy shelter on 24 December 2018.
Vice Consul and Embassy’s ATN section head Benjamin A. Celedio, Jr. led distribution of gifts consisting of winter essentials for adults and milk supplies for babies to around 160 wards staying in the Embassy’s shelter. The wards were also treated to a simple dinner meal.
Also part of the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) Health and Wellness program, the wards enjoyed a one-hour zumba session facilitated by a certified fitness instructor. The twice monthly session aims to provide an enjoyable way for the wards to keep an active lifestyle despite the limitations of their living condition.
In keeping with the holiday celebration, Chargé d'affaires Roussel R. Reyes, assured the wards that the Embassy, in cooperation with the POLO, is working to ensure the speedy resolution of their cases and eventual repatriation. In the meantime, the government will strive to make their stay in the shelter as comfortable as possible. END
