DOHA 31 December 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Doha joined the national celebration of the martyrdom of Filipino national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, held at the Embassy’s social hall last 30 December 2018.
In his welcome remarks, Chargé d'affaires Roussel R. Reyes asked the question “Who Rizal is to you?” and requested the audience to reflect on the personal relevance of Dr. Rizal’s life and martyrdom for the present day Filipino in the fields of arts, science, medicine, engineering, agriculture and others where Rizal exemplified in his days. It is in making his martyrdom relevant to the present-day Filipino that we give true value for his contributions to the nation.
The celebration started with the customary flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony and was highlighted by the oratorical performances of the young Rizal and Maria Clara, portrayed by students from the Philippine International School Qatar. A simple traditional Filipino almusal was also served after the event. END
