CHICAGO 31 December 2018 — Braving the windy and wintry day of 30 December 2018, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago and members of the Filipino community in Chicago, mostly from the Knights of Rizal, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of the National Hero in Margate Park in Chicago.

In contrast to the inclement weather, fresh and bright-colored flowers from the Consulate General and National Federation of Filipino American Associations adorned the Rizal monument that day, and participants vibrantly shared stories about the hero’s life and achievements. The Consulate General spearheads the annual observance of Rizal Day and the Knights of Rizal occasionally conduct lectures to fellow Knights and members of the Filipino community in Chicago about the life and works of Rizal.

Chicago was one of the cities visited by Dr. Rizal during his extensive trips to the United States and Europe. It is no wonder that Chicago is home to several Knights of Rizal chapters, including Maynilad Chapter, which was established at the Consulate General in 2016 and whose membership comprises mostly Consulate personnel.
