PH Consulate General in Guam Commemorates Rizal Day

AGANA 31 December 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, led by Consul General Marciano R. de Borja observed the 122nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Official Residence of the Consul General in Jonestown, Guam on 28 December 2018.
The celebration was observed together with the officers and members of the Laguna Association of Guam (LAG) led by its president Mr. Angel Baldemor, and the Masonic District Guam brethren led by District Deputy Grand Master Bro. Jose Carlo Delos Santos,
In his remarks, Consul General de Borja said that, “Dr. Jose Rizal is larger than life. He represents the ideals of a Renaissance Man during his time – someone who is thinking not just about himself but also the good of society, the community, of other people and the future generation. He is someone that we should admire.”
Consul General de Borja and LAG President Baldemor led the traditional wreath-laying at the bust of Rizal located at the grounds of the Official Residence. Ms. Agatha de Borja, the Consul General’s youngest daughter, led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
He noted the partnership between the Consulate General and the LAG in helping keep the legacy of Rizal alive among the Filipino-Americans and Filipinos in Guam.
A video presentation about what transpired shortly before and after the execution of Dr. Rizal at Bagumbayan was also shown after the Consul General’s remarks. The guests had merienda cena that included traditional Filipino food. END
