PH Embassy in Riyadh Briefs Bahay Kalinga Wards on Women, Child Protection Act

RIYADH 23 January 2019 — As part of its gender and development (GAD) initiatives, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh conducted a lecture-seminar on Republic Act 9262 program or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 (VAWC)”, to more than 350 female distressed workers housed at the Bahay Kalinga in Riyadh on 26 December 2018.

Attaché Janis Mahalia-Orbita Lantud, who is also the Embassy’s Legal Officer and Alternate GAD Focal Person, discussed the protection provided by law to the victims of domestic violence, as well as the procedures in filing a case pursuant to RA 9262.

Social Welfare Attaché Teresita Valentino also discussed the role of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the implementation of the law, particularly the protection and psychosocial intervention given to VAWC survivors

After the lecture, the resource speakers checked on the participant’s knowledge on RA 9262 and gave simple gift items to those who correctly answered the test questions. The resource speakers also responded to VAWC queries from the participants. END
