LONDON 23 January 2019 —The Philippine Embassy in London recently launched “Islam in International Relations” at the Embassy Chancery on 16 January 2019, through an interactive discussion between the book’s editors on the importance of understanding Islam in the context of international relations and global affairs.

“We currently live in a world where different faiths and belief systems coexist. The book’s publication is very timely because of its ability to ignite a meaningful conversation on the relationship between the Islamic and non-Islamic populations of the world,” said Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio M. Lagdameo. “Islam, after all, is not solely a religion but it is a social, economic, political, and foreign policy system unto itself.”

On its first edition, “Islam in International Relations”  is edited by University of the Philippines’ Institute of Islamic Studies assistant professor and International Relations and Islamic Studies Research Cohort founder Nassef Manabilang Adiong, Allameh Tabataba'i University in Tehran- Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages assistant professor and one of the 2013 awardees of the World Prize for the Book of the Year of Iran in the field of Islamic Studies Raffaele Mauriello, University of Massachusetts Lowell-Department of Political Science associate professor, and Harvard University- Center for Middle East Studies visiting scholar Deina Abdelkader.

The book focuses on the interaction between Islam and international relations, and attempts to show how Islam’s distinct conceptualization of ideas affect people’s thinking and behavior in their capacity to relate with various issues in international relations.

Copies of the book are available in Amazon and Routledge. END
