THE HAGUE 24 January 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in The Hague joined the Frankfurt Office of the Department of Tourism Promotions Bureau (PDOT-PTB Frankfurt) in promoting the Philippines as a travel destination for the 49th Vakantiebeurs held in Utrecht from 09 to 13 January 2019.

Ambassador to The Netherlands Jaime Victor B. Ledda and PDOT-PTB Frankfurt Director Margarita Patricia R. Valdes attended the grand opening of the Vakantiebeurs on 09 January 2019.

The Vakantiebeurs, the Netherlands’ largest holiday fair, was participated in by more than 100 countries together with major travel industry names from around the world.

The new events at the 2019 Vakantiebeurs’ calendar included a Travel Congress on 08 January 2019, a “One Trade Day” exclusively for travel professionals on 09 January 2019, four Consumer days on 11 -14 January, and introduction of theme days such as Photo Friday and Solo Sunday, plus cooking and photography workshops.

On 13 January, the Embassy attended the presentation of Dutch travel blogger Ties Lagraauw who gave a presentation on his travel to the best destinations in the Philippines such as Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Banaue, and the exciting activities in each destination such as sailing, rafting, snorkeling and mountain climbing.

Mr. Lagraaw emphasized the uniqueness and diverse attractions of the Philippines as a tourist destination, citing further the warmth and hospitality of the Filipinos and the beauty of the islands. The presentation was one of the well-attended briefings with more than 150 attendees. The Embassy treated the attendees with calamansi juice from the Philippines after the presentation.

At the Philippine booth, DOT-Frankfurt invited two Dutch travel agencies that offer travel tours to the Philippines, the Undiscovered which featured the Philippines as “the last frontier in Asia,” and Travel Boutique.

The two travel agencies had a busy week, particularly in interacting and selling their tour packages to Dutch travelers who came in the hundreds of thousands during the Consumer days. Both are happily expecting a substantial increase in the number of travelers choosing the Philippines as their travel destination for this year. END
