PH Consul General Inducts New Officers of PH Independence Week Committee

CHICAGO 29 January 2019 — To gear up for the Independence Day celebration in June, the Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) in Chicago organized a kick-off event for the 2019 Philippine Independence Day Celebration at the Avalon Banquet Hall, Elk Grove Village in Illinois on 12 January 2019.

Consul General Gina Jamoralin administered the oath of office of the 2019 PIWC Officers led by Edwin Pineda as Overall Chairman, and the 2019 Board of Trustees Executive Officers led by Faye Mendiola. 

In her remarks, Consul General Jamoralin congratulated the PIWC for their continuing mission to celebrate Philippine independence through its yearly Independence Day gala dinner event, and to propagate Philippine culture and values.

The Consul General looked forward to working with them on projects initiated by the Consulate General in tandem with the Filipino-American Community such as the “2018 Paskuhan sa Chicago,” and the United States Midwest Youth Leaders Immersion Program which had 12 young Filipino-Americans visit the Philippines on 03-09 January 2019. 

She also reminded the Filipino community who are still Filipino citizens of their civic responsibility to vote as overseas vote in the upcoming midterm elections in May 2019.

Consul General Jamoralin invited them to join the upcoming 2019 VIP Tour (formerly Ambassadors Tour) on 14-21 July 2019 in Manila, Clark, Bataan and Palawan, and to enjoy the beauty of the Philippines like a “very important person.”

The event also featured presentations of PIWC Outstanding Leadership Awardees, and PIWC 2018 and 2019 Beauty Queens. END
