JEDDAH 29 January 2019 — As part of its mandate to bring consular services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, a team from the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah rendered its first consular mobile services for 2019 for Filipinos in the city of Tabuk from 18 to 19 January.

The consular team processed 582 passport applications, 100 legalization of documents, and 43 related services including passport validity extensions, certifications and police clearance endorsements.

Representatives from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Office of the Social Welfare Attache, Pag-IBIG and Social Security System also joined the consular mission to offer their respective services. Social Welfare Attaché Priscilla Razon interviewed Saudi employers and their Filipino household service workers (HSWs) to check whether the latter are receiving their rightful entitlements under Saudi labor laws.

During the service, Consul General Edgar Badajos held a dialogue with the applicants. The Consul General explained the Consulate’s various services and related processes and procedures, including recent regulations issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs with regard to the requirements for passport applications.  He encouraged those who have registered as overseas Voters to exercise their right of suffrage and to choose wisely come election time later this year.

The Consulate General conducts consular mobile services in Tabuk at least twice a year for the benefit of Filipinos in the area who have to take a 12-hour land travel or an hour-and-a-half plane ride just to get to Jeddah for their consular needs.

The first consular mission in Tabuk was successfully conducted with the support and cooperation of members of the Filipino Community in Tabuk led by Roger Mendoza.

Tabuk is the northernmost city of Saudi Arabia in its western region. It is home to an estimated 15,000 Filipinos comprising construction workers, semi-skilled workers, medical personnel, and HSW. END
