MANAMA 30 January 2019 — Philippine Embassy in Manama officers and staff, led by Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver, held a post-Christmas program at the Isa Town Female Detention Facilities (Reformation and Rehabilitation Center, Remand and Detention Center, Immigration Holding and Deportation Center) on 22 January 2019.

The Embassy team was met by Captain Mai Rashid Al-Qatam, a representative of the Office of the Chief of Inmates Affairs.

Ambassador Ver opened the program reassuring the detainees of the Embassy’s commitment to protect their rights and ensure their welfare even under their present circumstances. He also conveyed the Embassy’s intention to bring the goodness and cheer of the Christmas season, and expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the representatives of the detention facilities for allowing the Embassy to hold a post-holiday celebration.

The Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Team prepared parlor games and distributed prizes to the winners and game participants. Some detainees showcased their singing prowess and rendered song numbers.

Packs of toiletries sourced from ATN funds and goodie bags from Nestlé Bahrain containing chocolate bars, packs of instant soup, and sachets of coffee, were distributed as gifts to the detainees. The Embassy’s “VAW Free Community Starts With Me” shirts were also included in the gift packs. END
