SAN FRANSICO 30 January 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco hosted a Fireside Chat and Networking Night entitled “Innovative Solutions for Future Business Opportunities in Electronics Manufacturing” at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on 10 January 2019.

Organized in collaboration with the Consulate’s Philippine Trade and Investment Center, as part of a series of events entitled “Spark Chats,” it provides a platform to discuss emerging global trends and opportunities for Filipino industries and companies.

The Spark Chats are part of the overarching Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) movement, which hopes to “spark” interest in the startup ecosystem in the Philippines among Filipino Americans, “connect” individuals and organizations in Silicon Valley to like-minded networks in the Philippines, and “empower” the community to help bridge the gap between the Philippines and Silicon Valley.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto Jr. shared that Spark Chats, and the SCE Movement in general, presents an opportunity to improve the human resources of the country, by connecting Filipinos with fellow Filipinos and Filipino Americans in Silicon Valley.  Through this event, it is hoped that there will be a greater engagement between Philippine based companies and those in Silicon Valley.

Aside from Filipino-American entrepreneurs, students, and members of the Filipino community in the Bay Area, the event was also attended by the Philippine Delegation to the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from 06 to 09 January, consisting of representatives from government and from the Semiconductor & Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (SEIPI).

The event generated discussions on the emerging trends and business opportunities for the semiconductor and electronics industries, including opportunities for the Philippines to address the demand for high volume manufacturing while also developing high-value products, its investments in developing young Filipino scientists, and inroads on the Philippines’ space technology program.
