Filipiniana Section at Bangladesh Central Library to Open Soon

DHAKA 06 February 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, represented by Chargé d' Affaires, a.i. LV De Guzman and Attaché Cathrinne Joy Dimaranan-Gamo, held a meeting with Director General Ashish Kumar Sarker of the Department of Public Libraries-Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh on 20 January 2019 to discuss the Embassy’s proposal to establish a Filipiniana section at Dhaka Central Public Library, the largest public library in Bangladesh.
Department of Public Library officials welcomed the Embassy’s proposal to donate books authored by Filipino writers and digital content from Philippine production companies, as well as maps and other visual promotional materials to encourage Bangladeshis to learn more about the history, culture, heritage, and geography of the Philippines.
Director General Sarker expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s proposals, and said that he was looking forward to the opening of the Filipiniana section at the library.
The Dhaka Central Public Library in Liaquat Avenue in Dhaka has been open to the public since 1978, and welcomes an estimated 3,000 Bangladeshis daily who borrow and read books from its collection. END
