Secretary Locsin Heads PH Delegation to ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting in Belgium
BRUSSELS 07 February 2019 — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. headed the Philippine delegation at the 22nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union (ASEAN-EU) Ministerial Meeting in Brussels, Belgium on 21 January 2019.
Secretary Locsin joined his colleagues from the nine other ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and 28 counterpart representatives from the EU member states as well as EU and European Council officials from the European Union and European Council.
The biennial meeting was co-chaired by Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Federica Mogherini.
The ministerial meeting reviewed recent developments and discussed the future directions of ASEAN-EU dialogue relations. The meeting agreed on principle to elevate to the level of strategic partnership the EU’s dialogue relationship with ASEAN, with details to be worked out later. END
