PH, China Sign Agreement on Provision of Military Aid for Reconstruction and Rehabilitation

BEIJING 01 February 2019 — The Philippines and China signed an agreement on China’s provision of military aid to the Philippines on 25 January 2019.

Defense Undersecretary Cardozo Luna led the Philippine side, and was accompanied by Ambassador to China Jose Santiago L. Sta. Romana and other officials from the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and the Department of National Defense. The Chinese side was led by Major General Ci Guowei of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense.

After the signing, the Philippine delegation had a meeting with State Councilor and Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe.

The agreement is the result of the visit of President Xi Jinping to Manila on 20-21 November 2018. The funds will mainly be used for rehabilitation and reconstruction in areas in the Philippines affected by terrorism. END
