PH Ambassador Encourages Increased PH-Bangladesh Trade

DHAKA 11 February 2019 — With the aim to further increase trade and investments between the Philippines and Bangladesh, Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo met with the new Bangladeshi Minister of Commerce Tipu Munshi at the Ministry of Commerce in Dhaka on 23 January 2019.
“Trade and investments show vast potential for expansion and can be an important cornerstone of Philippines-Bangladesh relations as our economies develop. It is vital, therefore, that we open more avenues for cooperation and exchange, especially in trade in goods and services,” Ambassador Bandillo told Minister Munshi.
Minister Munshi welcomed the Ambassador’s initiative to improve trade relations, and invited the Philippines to import Bangladeshi-made pharmaceuticals and agro-products. Ministry of Commerce officials also acknowledged the success of the Philippines in developing its business process outsourcing industry, and the competitiveness of Filipino information technology professionals. The Minister said that bilateral trade between two countries has the potential to increase, and that the Bangladeshi government will take necessary measures to this end.
Ambassador Bandillo expressed appreciation to the Ministry officials, and said that visits of business delegations to each other’s countries are important ways of strengthening the economic part of bilateral relations. END
