PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to Cabo Verde President

LISBON 11 February 2019 — Ambassador to Portugal Celia Anna M. Feria presented her Letter of Credence as non-resident Ambassador to Cabo Verde to President Jorge Carlos Fonseca in a ceremony at the presidential palace on 06 February 2019.
The ceremony began with the traditional review of the Presidential Honor Guard at the palace grounds and was followed by a meeting with President Fonseca, where he warmly welcomed Ambassador Feria and congratulated her on her presentation of credentials.
Ambassador Feria expressed sincere appreciation to the President for the opportunity to present her credentials, as well as for the warm hospitality accorded by the government of Cabo Verde. The Ambassador conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to President Fonseca.
During the meeting, the Ambassador discussed with President Fonseca the possibility of working with the Cabo Verdean government through technical cooperation in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture and education.
The Ambassador also shared the similarities the Philippines has with Cabo Verde, with both countries having a large diaspora that are living and working abroad. Cabo Verde is one of the countries with the highest emigration rates.
After the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Feria met with Acting National Director for Politics, Economic and Cultural Affairs Joaquim Maim Jr.
Ambassador Feria expressed optimism that the Philippines and Cabo Verde can significantly increase and broaden the level of bilateral exchanges and engagement in the near future. The Ambassador also discussed with Director Maiam the development of technical cooperation programs as part of Philippine-Cabo Verdean bilateral relations.
The Philippines and Cabo Verde established diplomatic relations on 05 July 1975. The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon exercises jurisdiction over bilateral relations with the Republic of Cabo Verde. END
