PH Embassy in Yangon Raises Cervical Cancer Awareness in Myanmar

YANGON 12 February 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon organized a talk on cervical cancer entitled “A Healthy Woman is a Wealthy Woman: What You Need to Know About Cervical Cancer” for the Filipino Community at the Wyndham Grand Yangon on 03 February 2019.
The Embassy invited Dr. Lyra E. Blanco, an obstetrician-gynecologist from GlobeMed Lab Services in the Philippines, as resource person for the event.
Dr. Blanco talked about the high incidence of cervical cancer among women in the Philippines and Myanmar, its causes and symptoms, and how to prevent and detect cervical cancer. The talk was followed by a free Papanicolaou test, commonly known as Pap Smear Examination or Pap Test, for interested women participants.
The event was attended by eight men and 37 women, 21 of whom availed of the Pap Smear Examination. END
