ASEAN Ambassadors in The Hague Meet with Anti-Chemical Weapons Org Director-General
PHOTO: ASEAN Ambassadors in The Hague met with Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Director-General Fernando Arias González at the OPCW Headquarters on 15 January 2019.
Led by Ambassador Eksiri Pintaruchi of Thailand as the current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague (ACTH), the delegation was composed of Ambassadors Jaime Victor B. Ledda of the Philippines, I. Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja of Indonesia, Dato’ Ahmad Nazri Yusof of Malaysia, Ngo Thi Hoa of Viet Nam, and Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister-Counsellor Koong Pai Ching of Singapore.
The meeting was an opportunity for the OPCW and the ACTH to discuss issues of common interest, including the proposed capability hub on chemical weapons in the ASEAN region, the need for continued capability building cooperation and awareness between ASEAN and the OPCW, and the increasing challenges in international and regional security.
This is the second meeting between the ACTH and the OPCW. The first was on 29 March 2017 with then Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü. (The Hague PE photo)
