BANGKOK 13 February 2019 — Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon joined other diplomats and foreign embassy representatives in the yearly celebrated Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World 2018, which was held on 01 December 2018 at the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Center of Thailand to commemorate the efforts and contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand in the promotion and development of Thai silk industry.
The event was organized by the Tourist Assistance Foundation in collaboration with Royal Thai government agencies such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Queen Sirikit’s Department of Sericulture, and the members of the Diplomatic Corps.
This year’s event was considered as the largest and biggest promotion yet for the Celebration of Silk since its first event in 2009. The opening ceremony was presided over by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam.
Also featured in the grand opening was Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurztbach, who modeled for world-renowned Filipino fashion designed Oliver Tolentino.
Following the grand opening, the organizers presented the First International Thai Silk Fashion Week on 02-04 December 2018, providing each international designer the opportunity to showcase his or her creations.
Mr. Tolentino successfully showcased his 45 gowns with the special participation of Ms. Wurztbach. About 400 spectators, composed of Filipinos, Thais and other foreigners, watched and appreciated Tolentino’s fashion show segment. END
