PH Embassy in Warsaw Supports First Science Diplomat
PHOTO: Filipino Doctor of Philosophy student Alex S. Olpenda successfully defended his dissertation at the University of Life and Sciences (WULS) in Warsaw on 08 January 2019.
Mr. Olpenda started his PhD program in Forestry through the scholarship of Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Programme under the ALFABET (Asia Life Food Agriculture Biology Economics Technology) Project on October 2015.
His doctoral dissertation was on “Modeling light conditions in mixed stand using airborne LiDAR data: Bialowieza Forest example”.
Mr. Olpenda hopes to utilize the knowledge and skills he earned when he returns to the Philippines by rejoining the academe and by conducting similar research in the country.
He took the opportunity to put the country on spotlight at the university and requested the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw‘s assistance with tourism materials as well as information on Philippine delicacies that Mr. Olpenda prepared such as pansit, puto, and leche flan, which were made by Ms. Aurorita Martin, a long-time Warsaw resident.
