Consul General Inducts New Officers of Disaster Relief Org in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES 15 February 2019 – Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz led the induction ceremony of the newly-elected officers of Philippine Disaster Relief Organization (PeDRO) at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles Conference Hall on 09 January 2019.

Consul General Cruz commended the organization for promoting solidarity among kababayans in Southern California, while remaining committed to sharing the blessings of their success with distressed compatriots back home.  

He also commended PeDRO’s previous president and chairman Archerie G. Calunod for his dedicated service to the organization. He also congratulated the new set of officers, led by Mr. Benito M. Miranda, for inspiring our kababayans to take upon themselves the mantle of public service and community-building.

PeDRO was established in Los Angeles in 2004 as a response of the community leaders to the call of the Consulate General to be part of the government’s relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Nanmadol which struck Quezon province in November 2004.

The community-wide relief efforts led by PeDRO successfully raised US $42,000 and benefitted the communities in the worst-hit towns in the province in early 2005.

PeDRO, whose membership is composed of active leaders and members of various Filipino American community leaders and members in Southern California, is a non-profit corporation with tax exempt status.  To date, the organization continues to be active in undertaking projects for the victims of natural calamities in the Philippines.
