NAIROBI 15 February 2019 – Ambassador to Kenya Uriel Norman R. Garibay bid the Filipino community in Nairobi a fond farewell in its monthly get-together or salo-salo for the Filipinos in Nairobi on 10 February 2019.

Ambassador Garibay expressed his appreciation for the friendship, camaraderie, and unwavering support of the Filipinos during his stint as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), which began in August 2016.

He particularly recalled the significant assistance in terms of security coordination of the Filipino community leaders during the Kenyan Presidential Elections in 2017.

During the event, Ambassador Garibay likewise introduced the new members of the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi team, including Third Secretary and Vice Consul Maria Rosanna Josue, Administrative Officer Joanne David, Finance Officer Leonilo Navales, Cultural Officer Hossana Dela Cruz, and Consular Officer William Tan.

Around 60 Filipinos participated in the get-together. A Filipino Mass officiated by Filipino priest Father Eutiquio Mula Jr. preceded the salo-salo.

The Embassy caters to more than 1,700 Filipinos in the East African Region. Nairobi itself is host to 400 Filipinos. END
