JEDDAH 16 February 2019 – As part of its mandate to bring consular services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah rendered its first consular mobile services for 2019 for Filipinos in Najran, Saudi Arabia’s southwestern-most city on 1-2 February.
The consular team processed 247 passport applications, 65 legalization of documents including certifications and police clearance endorsements, and five related services including passport validity extensions and issuance of travel documents.
Representatives from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Office of the Social Welfare Attache, Pag-IBIG, and Social Security System also joined the consular mission to offer their respective services.
Social Welfare Attaché Priscilla Razon interviewed Saudi employers and their Filipino household service workers (HSWs) to check whether the latter are receiving their rightful entitlements under Saudi labor laws.
The Consulate General conducts consular mobile services in Najran at least twice a year for the benefit of Filipinos in the area who have to take a 12-hour land travel or an hour-and-a-half plane ride just to get to Jeddah for their consular needs.
The first consular mission in Najran was successfully conducted with the support and cooperation of Filipino community members led by Faisal Mailao.
Najran is home to an estimated 8,000 Filipinos comprising construction workers, semi-skilled workers, medical personnel, and HSW. END
