PH Assumes 2019 Chairmanship of ASEAN Women Circle of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES 17 December 2018 – The Philippines officially assumed the 2019 chairmanship of the ASEAN Women Circle of Los Angeles (AWCLA), comprised of the spouses of the heads of mission and female members of the ASEAN consular corps at the official residence of Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz on 17 December 2018.

The turnover ceremony was witnessed by the heads of mission of the ASEAN countries in Los Angeles namely Consul General Simon Soekarno of Indonesia, Consul General Devrin Jeck of Malaysia, Honorary Consul General Kim Chaa Hout of Cambodia, Acting Consul General Kosol Satitthamajit of Thailand, and Acting Consul General Thant Sin Oo of Myanmar. 

The program included welcome remarks from Consul General Cruz, introduction of the new President of AWCLA, acceptance speech of Madame Catherine A. Cruz, and presentation of the AWCLA 2019 Executive Committee members.

In his remarks, Consul General Cruz congratulated AWCLA and gave his assurance that the Philippines will continue the association’s meaningful programs.

Madame Cruz acknowledged the value of friendship, which the association has nurtured throughout the years. She also pledged to further fortify this bond and at the same time, promote ASEAN awareness in Southern California by strengthening and further establishing the network between AWCLA and other relevant government and social institutions in the city of Los Angeles and other regions of Southern California. 

AWCLA was established on 08 May 1991, drawing inspiration from the ideals of ASEAN friendship and unity. It is a social-cultural association of women from ASEAN member countries, aiming to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and awareness among ASEAN women, its members and the general public. END
