PH Consulate General in Los Angeles Screens PH Oscars Entry
LOS ANGELES 20 December 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, through the initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of the Undersecretary for Strategic Communications and Research, conducted a special screening of the Philippines’ official entry to the 91st Academy Awards, “Signal Rock”, at the Raleigh Studios located along Melrose Boulevard in Hollywood on 20 December 2018.
Around 120 guests composed of some members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Filipino-American members of the media, entertainment and tourism industries, influencers, friends in the academe and business sectors and select Filipino-American community leaders, together with the officers and staff of the Consulate General, filled Raleigh Studios’ Chaplin Screening Room.
The film screening is a prelude to the Consulate General’s celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema, in line with the recently-signed Presidential Proclamation No. 622 declaring the 20th of September 2019 to the 19th of September 2020 as the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema.
The event also became a gastronomical delight to the guests with the scrumptious Filipino food catered by Filipino-American chef and restaurateur, Barb Batiste, chef and proprietor of Filipino restaurant Big Boi located in West Los Angeles’ trendy Sawtelle food corridor.
During the event, the Consulate General also took the opportunity to promote the Very Important Pinoy (VIP) and Filgrimage Tours scheduled in July 2019 by disseminating brochures and playing the tours’ official video teaser. END
