PH Chargé d'Affaires Keynotes Association of PH Schools Overseas Convention in Athens

ATHENS 19 February 2019 — Minister and Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Embassy in Athens, delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Fifth Association of Philippine Schools Overseas (APSO) Convention at New Age Hotel in Athens, Greece on 25 January 2019.
The convention was organized by the APSO, led by its President and Philippine School in Doha Principal Dr. Alexander S. Acosta with the support and assistance of the Philippine School in Greece led by Administrator Luz C. Ta-a and Principal Gracia Celia Guieb Nickel.
Thirty-seven participants from Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) in Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Greece attended the convention, which carried the theme “Sharing Commonalities Amidst Differences.”
In her address, Chargé d'Affaires Lemque emphasized the important role played by APSO in the education of overseas Filipino children, and reminded APSO members of the importance of educating these children about their Filipino culture and heritage.
Chargé d'Affaires Lemque also noted that Athens provided a favorable setting for a convention of the Filipino educators, Athens being the site of Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum. END
